The fact that Ali Shihabi has been reduced to tweeting stuff like this to defend MBS and to explain away the murder of a journalist almost makes me feel sorry for him. He’s in an impossible positionhttps://twitter.com/aliShihabi/status/1055214271058075648 …

you're not justifying his murder, but you're clearly explaining it away with whatabout-ism. It's a way to deflect attention, change the subject, and pollute the information space. It's a tried and true method of authoritarian regimes and their supporters

No it is simply to put it in context. A horrible crime but not one that can be allowed to put the country’s stability at risk period.

Analysts should have a sense of history and context and not become tabloid journalists. There is a lot at stake here and the easiest thing is to play to the crowd. A horrible crime deserves a proportional response but regional stability (if you care about that) is paramount.

The joke is KSA is already existing on the basis of western hypocrisy. If west decides to leave its hypocrisy, then its the end of KSA in the global order. So, Mr, Ali should be careful of accusing western hypocrisy.
