    Full statement text:
Today’s message from the world’s scientists is clear: the impacts of the climate crisis demand urgent action to deploy solutions massively and quickly. These impacts are already devastating, they are accelerating rapidly, and they will continue to do the most damage to the poorest and most vulnerable populations around the world.

We are dangerously close to reaching critical ecological tipping points for our climate that threaten to move humanity into uncharted territory. However, we are also on the cusp of the long-awaited political tipping point, beyond which the world finds the political will to act and save the future of our civilization. Now is the time to move decisively forward in global cooperation to accelerate the net zero transition.

Our common humanity must bind us ever more tightly together so we can act boldly and definitively to protect the fragile climatic balance upon which human civilization depends.

If we want to solve the climate crisis, we can't rely on incomplete emissions data. has found massive underreporting of GHG emissions from oil & gas, just as did last year. TRACE also found significant gaps in other industries too. More:

Judge Gilbert S. Merritt understood the power of his position and sought to use it to advance justice for the Americans he served and to help build democracies abroad. He was a man of great integrity and I am lucky to have benefitted from his mentorship, wisdom, and friendship.

Statement by Former Vice President Al Gore on the Passing of Judge Gilbert S. Merritt

Judge Merritt was a cherished friend of my entire family. A deeply intelligent and deliberative legal thinker, he was an ardent defender of the liberties that form the foundations of our Constitution. He understood the power of his position and sought to use it to advance justice for the Americans he served and to help build democracies abroad. He was a man of great integrity and I am lucky to have benefitted from his mentorship, wisdom, and friendship.

Judge Merritt believed in the power of the legal system to advance civil rights and provide equal opportunity under the law. So on what would have been his 86th birthday and on the day of our annual celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., may we all recommit ourselves to the pursuit of justice for all.

Gil will be greatly missed and I am holding his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that denying the right to vote "is a tragic betrayal of the highest mandates of our democratic tradition." This that sacred right is under threat. I join the millions calling on lawmakers to defend this core tenet of our democracy.

Harry Reid was a fighter – he fought on behalf of the people of NV & the US every day. He not only fought with grit, he fought with heart. His friends, colleagues & fellow Americans are all the better thanks to the legacy that Harry Reid leaves behind. He was a truly great man.

Statement by Former Vice President Al Gore on the Passing of Sen. Harry Reid

December 28, 2021

Harry Reid was a fighter – he fought on behalf of the people of Nevada and the United States every day.

He not only fought with grit, he fought with heart. His determination was fortified as a young boy growing up in his small hometown of Searchlight, Nevada and bolstered by his unwavering belief in the power of public service. He saw the toll of unequal access to education, to clean air and water, to health care, and so much more and fought like hell to fix it.
