How much interested would there be in a series of blog posts on how to build a production-ready(ish) API in @rustlang from scratch? Think database setup, domain layer, API layer, non-functional requirements (logging, tracing, metrics), integration tests, benchmarks, etc.

I think it might be more interesting to talk about what Rust is good at it in the context of REST APIs first! By design it's more to get it doing useful things than Python/PHP/Node/etc but other aspects like correctness, performance and threading are quite unique.

I agree, but at the same time I prefer a "show don't tell" approach - I'll give you a peek of what it looks like to develop one, then you are free to decide if that is ergonomic/better/worse than your current go-to language or framework :)

Sure thing! I just can't imagine it being anywhere near as easy as say starting a Django project with some basic endpoints so I'd be interested to see what unique pros there are for that development time trade-off.

If you are used to Django-like frameworks, with a lot of functionality packed in the framework itself (e.g. ORM), it's indeed quite a lot of work to tie up all the required pieces. I'd approach the current state of the Rust ecosystem looking at Flask and FastAPI as references.

Yeah of course, that's why I was picking Django specifically. I have a lot of critique against Flask/Pyramid for Python API development, my thinking was that I look at Rust and it's those issues "but more", hence why I'm interested in the unique value propositions of the language
