300 applications for ML internship. Not a single one can write a scikit pipeline and normalise input data. Everyone has advanced ML and data science degrees from all kinds of cool programs. And everyone has worked on CNN. And everyone has published papers.

I'm not surprised, There are very few courses where people go a bit deeper in the engineering aspect of ML like pipelines, imputers etc.

My fundamental thesis now is that ML as an engineering (versus research) discipline will move closer to devops than math. We are in the world of Sagemaker, mlflow and automl. I'm struggling to teach the use of SACRED to kaggle-specific engineers.
