Bold prediction: In retrospect, most intense religious imagery was subconsciously used to signal/identify high-valence states as the reward for practice/commitment/proselytizing (depending on the tradition). That's why crystals, geometry, bright colors, youth, etc are emphasized!

Interesting! My take here:https://twitter.com/michaelcurzi/status/1206793426366132224?s=21 …
Michael Curzi added,
Michael Curzi @michaelcurzi34/ Religious art provides phenomenological instruction to the seeker. E.g. the ‘sacred heart’ evokes [physical] pain, suffering, hope, love, transcendence, holiness, ‘agony’ e.g. Jesus’ Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. Now, padawan: find this feeling in your heart. pic.twitter.com/RFdSG5g7vlShow this thread1 reply 0 retweets 1 like

That's very interesting! And quite accurate. Can we design an open-source tradition (that satisfies the same needs as religion, and more, without compromising epistemology) with designer iconography? Qualia research and phenomenological instructions can go hand in hand.
