the difference between some personal site explaining how to fix a bike vs a youtube video of someone stretching a few sentences worth of information into a video with all the tropés of being a youtuber. the expectations are different, even though yt motivates more people.

the web was about the optimism of being found. many platforms right now are about the pessimism of not being seen enough. I think it's a subtle difference.

if you can pick between an app and a site, use a site, it's sandboxed and will have a lot of trouble for grabbing your personal data

It feels so odd to watch in youtube which removed annotations, and other social networks trying to ban links as hard as possible. It feels as if we failed those ideals. We have to keep trying.

This whole video is amazing but this part shows a VR headset in use with hand gestures for locomotion and menus from 1990. But watch the whole thing, it's just speculative multimedia CD Psychedelia. Even hypercard stuff and Ted Nelson, the whole deal.

I wonder if we'll see copper phone cases, or the body itself, for its antiseptic properties. Same thing about controllers, mice, etc. (picture is a medical copper keyboard). VR headsets are possibility, like the facial interface.

I wonder if a Quest redesign is coming, that strategy works great for nintendo and many people complain about comfort issues.

"Is '83 the year of the mouse?" How is a mouse going to help me with calculating expenses, it's such a gimmick.

survival is not a genre but many games have modes for that as a mood, and letting people discover modes within experiences is very important. you also give people the opportunity to present their modes or sections specifically.

specially with how poorly genres work for VR, so for example pistol whip and defector fit in the "action hero" mood, and in "slashing things" you can have beat saber, fruit ninja, vader immortal, etc.

The viable way to categorize experiences I see for AR & VR is by moods and not exactly by genre. It's a very subjective classification but usually the themes are not subtle.

I feel like I don't even want to look more into new XR productions about sad stuff. It might very well be fantastic but I'm not in the mood for that. I want to see happy stuff, corny stuff, silly stuff, but it's important to state the mood of the production upfront.

a type system that is a disaster, but predictable, in a way can be a good type system

I think that punctuation and syntax symbols help people read source code, even though there's an evergreen view about keeping things as "human readable" as possible. That usually means stripping everything that doesn't look like an english sentence.
