This is part a factor of it taking longer to react and brake at high speeds, and also because the force of impact increases exponentially.
At 20 mph, most people will survive getting hit by a car. At 40mph, the impact is 4 times harder and very few do.

The US city with the highest car crash fatality rate - by a wide margin - happens to be the one where car racing is the major industry. Speed kills, especially when drivers crash into pedestrians.

#2: We have done a *really* good job at hiding how bad traffic violence is in a lot of cities by focusing on car-centric metrics like deaths per vehicle mile traveled. This is the breakdown per capita for cities over 50k pop., and IMO, it is pretty stunning.

There are about 8000 7-11s in the USA, and in 15 years, 6,000+ drivers have crashed into one. Sounds like we need more 😬

My takeaway from this article: about 78% of 7-11 stores have seen a driver crash into them in the last 15 years. chicago.suntimes.com/2023/2/8/23591

While attending the West County Mandarin School for #LunarNewYear I watched as children surrounded and one said: “you’re the Mayor?” You could see the child’s astonishment. Children seeing humans who look like them leading, here in West County. Future is bright!

I’m deeply saddened by the loss of Supervisor Valle, who was a staunch advocate for labor and fought to strengthen tenant protections until the very end.

We condemn the GOP-led efforts to pass laws criminalizing drag shows — laws designed to stigmatize and target trans and gender nonconforming people everywhere. These laws not only lead to anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, but directly inspire hate and violence.

Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some House Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset every five years.
Those benefits belong to the American people. And I will not allow them to be taken away.
Not today.
Not ever.

Our call to the state is not just a call to bridge the gap but also that we need more sustainable models of operating funds.
And this is not a BART-only or -induced issue. All Bay Area transit agencies face this crisis indiscriminately and totally.

Update: The rotten egg smell reported around Berkeley and Oakland on Monday was *not* due to work, the utility tells us: "Area odors can come from projects unrelated to PG&E, or even third party trucks or barges that pass through communities." The mystery continues!
