A thread on Anglicanism/ Episcopalianism:

This is maybe inevitable. Anglicanism was always a political faith, closely tied to the interests of the English ruling class. That class has changed a lot in composition and ideology, but their relationship to the official church of England remains the same

Two factors sustained Anglicanism: the interests and influence of the nobility of England, and the deference and desire to preserve folk traditions of illiterate peasants

Most of the English nobility supported Henry VIII in the 'divorce from Rome' that created the C of E out of loyalty to the crown. Like Henry himself, they had no desire to do away with Catholic theology, art and architecture or traditional devotions.

It was a narrow, political change (In their eyes at least) based on honouring their allegiance to the crown, not objections to the Church or its doctrines. The fact that many profited by seizing property from the Church (monasteries especially) also helped.

Similarly, the landless, illiterate peasantry had no interest in changing their religion. The traditions of their Church were compatible with their ancient peasant folkways and underpinned their society. So too did deference to the feudal hierarchy, with king and lord at the top

The people who'd come to really drive the Reformation in its more radical forms were from more urban parts of England with a mercantile economy, where more people were artisans or merchants and could read scripture and radical protestant pamphlets

Anglicanism, which was basically Catholic but substituted the king for the Pope, continued to thrive in more rural parts of England where the old feudal social structure persisted. When peasants and gentry emigrated to the colonies, they took this form of Christianity with them

However, these social conditions have now almost entirely disappeared. England and its colonies are now much more urban and much less Anglo than they used to be. Nobody cares about the old feudal ties any more. Remaining Christians have veered to Catholic or Protestant extremes

As a result, we have churches across the Anglo world which are outwardly handsome but empty, literally and spiritually. Progressivism has stepped into that void, using the pulpit of the official church to preach the same old nonsense as mandated by the state and official media
Prikaži ovu nit -
No one who is even slightly Anglo can see a country church set among green hills with a cross of St George flying proudly overhead and not feel great pride, but also sadness that these buildings were taken over by a politicised, heretical church which has fallen into ruin
Prikaži ovu nit -
England and her great spiritual heritage must return to the true faith of her fathers or perish
