Government in a completely uncompromising mood this morning 1st govt source: “It is no coincidence that the one phrase they want to ban is one of our main attack lines for the election they are too cowardly to call.”

3rd govt source: “I’ve renamed my imaginary dog ‘Labour support the surrender act’. Unfortunately he’s gone missing so I’ve spent the morning running around east London having to shout ‘Labour support the surrender act’. I do hope they don’t find this offensive”

But a former member of the govt says: “It’s a murdered mother they’re showing such contempt for. Stomach churning stuff. Even if they are happy to mobilise the angriest corners of society to better their chances of a majority, can they do it twice? Not a sustainable vote base.”

I asked a none governmental source for comment on the 3 governmental sources. they said ''clearly the government are rattled, desperate and running out of ground so they'll say anything they can to try and lash out and pretend like they have a plan.''

'Government source' implies there's some sort of valuable information being provided. This is just dangerous rhetoric being uncritically promoted. Sources should be named unless there is a valid reason to protect them.

Comic Dummings tying his jumper around his neck in 3 different ways doesn't constitute 3 different sources.

I'm the first to criticise reporters for quoting unnamed sources when it's just a means for people to get a message out. But in this case, I think there is a public benefit to reporting what government ministers are saying behind closed doors.
