*DUP rejects Murrison amendment* "Amendments tabled in Parliament will have no bearing on the legal status of what has been negotiated. Today’s very belated amendments are part of the internal parliamentary games and do not change the need to secure legally binding changes.”

What about the Leigh amendment? Seemed to achieve same ends on basis of technicalities in international law and so wouldn’t require EU agreement?

They are correct tho - unless wording of Withdrawal Agreement is changed to make any backstop legally time-limited or unlilaterally exitable then anything else is just hot air and fluster!

The Murrison amendment as reported would, IMO, prevent the UK lawfully ratifying the supposed Article 50 TEU Withdrawal Agreement. It would, in effect, be contrary to s13(1)(b) of the EU Withdrawal Act 2018 IMO.
