Really resonating with this pull quote from the editorial 'Tell it like it is': “Science is messy, and the results of research rarely conform fully to plan or expectation. ‘Clean’ narratives are an artefact of inappropriate pressures and the culture they have generated.”

Advocacy works! So excited to see this update from ’s office. Our all female scientist group brought up these bills: the American Innovation Act and the 21st Century STEM for Girls Act. If you were on the fence: go talk to policymakers - it makes a difference!

One last quote that drew quite the laugh during this excellent panel by - “let me say that the reason I like to talk to scientists is because they are smarter than most of the politicians I work with! It’s more... cognitively satisfying“

“Whether you like it or not you need to be involved in political action. We need to wake people up” . He mentioned a day with an oil CEO. On discussing climate change “he didn’t want to hear it. It was like string cheese on the moon. It’s like it wasn’t real”

My favorite AGU lecture is always the Rachel Carson Keynote. This year ’s Dr Heidi Sosik gave an incredible talk on understanding marine phytoplankton over the last century, featuring her incredible data set with hourly plankton counts by flow cytometry (since 2003!).

(On Mars) “NASA doesn’t do Star Trek - we don’t go where no humans have gone before. We still have a lot of rover science left to do” -’s James Green at his plenary talk on future planetary exploration

“The farside of the moon has the history of the sun buried in its soils” Loving this plenary talk by ’s Chief Scientist Dr. James Green talking about the future of lunar and mars exploration.

There are assumptions in this study. For ex, is the Arabian Sea a good calibration for low O2 driven preservation in the deep Pacific? But, if you move past hand waves & use the power of extrapolation you learn about ocean carbon changes since the LGM, and that is pretty powerful
