Can you explain the 35% increase?

Small sample size. Unprecedented wealth inequality. Massive unemployment. If you're going to blame him for burglaries being up 35% will you credit him for rapes being down 50% , thefts down 28%, and assault down 14%?

2000 cases is not a small sample size. Half a year is not a short time period. We're not talking about rape, assault, unicorns, etc. Please don't try to change the subject. Do you have something against elected officials being held accountable?

Is there a reason you chose to ignore all my other explanations?

Fair point. Sorry about that. Increases in inequality & unemployment could be driving that. However, hard to see how a ~10% increase in unemployment could lead to a 35% increase in burglaries. (I don't have stats handy for inequality increases.)

Let's hold him accountable, but also let's not blame him for problems that aren't his doing. There is no evidence that Chesa isn't holding people who commit burglaries accountable. On the other hand, the police have made arrests in only 13.3% of burglary cases vs 17.3% last year

Chesa could threaten the death penalty for burglaries, but if people aren't concerned about getting caught, then it doesn't matter. We already spend $700M on policing and it's just not effective. It's extremely difficult to be everywhere at once.

We need to invest in solutions that address the problems before a crime is committed. We need to take that money we're burning with SFPD and redirect it to a vast social safety net the truly increases public safety.
