I’ve hinted at my involvement with kink/BDSM on this account and this is going to be about that. My friend Frazier died over the weekend and I want to talk about why he was important.

Frazier was one of the most influential people in the leather/kink world. He was a board member for Black Rose and involved in many other kink organizations throughout the years. He also founded The Crucible which is a sex (primarily BDSM) club in DC

I’ve been to BDSM clubs internationally and across the US, I can tell you Crucible is one of the best. It was founded in the early 2000s and has influenced, even subtly, most clubs that have come after.

He was also one of the folks who shaped how big hotel and camp kink events worked back in the 1990s. And through today. And with BR shaped how BDSM education is done to this day.

Even if you haven’t been to a BR class, the Crucible or a big event he put on, someone who made an event or a club you HAVE been to almost certainly has.

People, organizations, clubs and events certainly came before Frazier was in the scene and their influence is unarguable. But that he influenced how we do all of these things is similarly without debate. The national kink scene would be different if he had not come along.

I knew Frazier for 20+ years, he and my father were good friends. After my father’s death he coordinated the kink funeral at his club free of charge. That was the start of my friendship with him.

Since I became more involved in the scene the Crucible became my home club. He always had my back in the political turmoil of that world, gave me a tremendous amount of trust and presented me with a lot of opportunities.

This is a profound loss for the community and for me personally. One of the official notes about his passing indicated he touched hundreds of people. I think that number is low. To say that things he shaped and helped build touched tens of thousands would be accurate.

None of these things were built by him alone but he was involved in many. Every time I walk into the club, I will think of him. He profoundly impacted my life over a long period of time and tonight I am going to celebrate his presence in it.
