After all the ink spilled in the West about the unstoppable “march of authoritarianism” worldwide maybe we ought to be writing more about how the people of HK and Taiwan stood their ground and pushed right back this year. And maybe the rest of the world ought to be behind them.

Just noticed my absolute favorite answer in the RE survey () results so far: Q: "Why do you reverse engineer?" A: "Spite." (Default choices were "work", "fun", and a few others but now I want to add "spite" to the official list next year)

actually, I should expand on that. synthesis is very slow, yes, and that's indeed expected, but what I didn't expect is how -unpredictably- slow it is. for example, it takes a few minutes to synthesize a 16-bit rotate left, but only a few seconds for a 16-bit rotate right.

Let us then learn the art of opening locked doors, in order that we may acquire that of securing them in such a way as to leave little or nothing to be feared on account of their security.

Ever wondered what makes a CTF challenge good? I've asked myself that many times. I wrote this to help me answer that question based on discussions with others in the community

Apple's latest responses collection: 1. Barking at Google Project 0 for the water hole spray attacks leveraging 14 vulnerabilities. 2. Trying to acquire Correlium and then suing them 3. DMCA against tweets and Reddit posts (?!) This is not a trend. A thread.

Here is an exploit chain I wrote for Firefox that gets RCE via CVE-2019-9810 and escape the sandbox with CVE-2019-11708/CVE-2019-9810. Once compromised, it drops a payload and injects privileged JS code in already/newly created tabs.

Troll 1) I already know how to write them, so game-theoretically my lifetime income is maximized if my skill remains scarce. As such no teachable artifacts should exist.

a lot of people think this sounds cool, but that wasn't the point of talking about it get lucky enough, and a model you made for a computer spreads far and wide, and attempts to shape the world into its own form. that is scary
