Solidarity matters. Investors in militarized, climate destroying, racist ways of living are highly organized. The only way we can dismantle and build different is by movements against different oppressions and exploitations standing together.

While grateful for , I was disturbed by how the movie ended with "don't be like these Chinese people." discovers and grapples with an older failure of solidarity in 's work.

I gasped in horror/recognition. This's a whole CS genre: aggressively long listserv apologia defending racism/misogyny via a garbage bag of analogy, in the style of a "blameless postmortem", claiming to eschew emotion while recursively proving the author's emotional investment...

We did some research a few years ago on how coding interviews impact people with autism:

You would think that a man, and an institution, concerned above all with reputation management would not compare his defense of sexual predators today with Black Tulsans’ defense of their lives a century ago, but you would be wrong.

Tagging in (and adding a thread of his, as well as a study from NCSU). White board interviews *definitely* aren't a way to measure anything other than anxiety:

Yup! The NCSU paper also references my little cognitive load clip at the 40 minute mark: The higher social evaluative threat for marginalized folk alone should be enough to end whiteboard interviews entirely. And it's worse for marginalized folk!

Shockingly little! There is some that point out ways interviews don't actually assess software skills (e.g. ) and then more about bias in job interviews generally.

Not sure about peer reviewed research, but first thing that comes to mind was a thread by about how elite higher ed institutions literally spend entire semester prepping their students to pass the Goog algos and data structures interview

Hivemind: does anyone know of any research on how coding interviews for tech jobs can be biased against marginalized folks?

interviewed me for this article about the work that we've been doing in the Name Change Policy Working Group to advocate for more inclusive publishing policies in academia. The journalism world needs a similar shift towards justice!

Wait, did the UMich CSE chair just compare the allegations of sexual harassment against WL to the false accusations that black and brown men have faced, often from white women? Am I misreading this?
