I think most problems people have with inequality aren't with the ratio, but with the absolute floor. A low floor makes wealth obscene.

nah, see floor varies wildly between countries while the elite lifestyle seems pretty similar everywhere

I think people's perceptions of what a "legitimate" floor are track the actual development of the country though.
