    When will B.1.617.2 (Delta) be the dominant variant in the US? Could be next week (or next 2 weeks) based on trends in our testing data & sequences available. SGTF (~B.1.1.7) now < 50% based on last 5 days. source: @my_helix @DiseaseOutbreakpic.twitter.com/ApFjmMgNGN

        P.1 (Gamma) B.1.526/.1 (Iota) B.1.617.2 (Delta) are the other main variants Based on recent small numbers (check http://outbreak.info ), Delta is trending up, but Gamma and Iota are not increasing anymore. More sequences will provide more accurate info.pic.twitter.com/3NkP8JZomA

        This needs to be put in perspective with fact that vaccines work very well against all (incl. B.1.617.2).https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1403014493311959041?s=20 …

        Great news for mRNA vaccine protection against the delta (B.1.617.2) variant, just out @Nature 👍👍 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03693-y … potent neutralizing antibody response generated @BioNTech_Group/@pfizer which goes along with some clinical effectiveness data pic.twitter.com/X8XeD9peoX

        For a higher level perspective, I follow @CDCDirector & @ScottGottliebMD ! Personally, I can't help but wonder about what makes Delta more transmissible? and why some people have very severe COVID-19?

        Big difference is UK has few under 30s vaccined due to high uptake in older people and few 2nd doses in under 50s.

        No one seems to have an explanation for why covid cases (presumably a lot delta) had such a rapid rise and equally rapid fall in India. Doesn’t seem to do with PHI or vaccines. Do you have a theory?

        Same reason every other Covid outbreak has done the same thing. People get scared and take precautions. Govts do lockdowns. Human behavior has an enormous impact.

        This will happen as it did for B.1.1.7. Now this week it was said it is only 6% of our cases currently. Again, vaccines are effective against it, the US uses mRNA and J&J. They can handle it. It’s the unvaccinated that’s a concern but they’re open to everyone

        Seems plausible to me - based on the fit to the GISAID sequencing data on 20 states I estimate that today B.1.617.2 (Delta) would make up 29% [26-32%] of all lab diagnoses or 41% [37-46%] of all infections today in US (assuming 1 week between inf & diagn)https://twitter.com/TWenseleers/status/1401214451395801090 …

        Tom Wenseleers added,

        Tom Wenseleers @TWenseleers
        Estimated growth rate advantage of B.1.617.2 vs B.1.1.7 is 8.3%/day [7.9-8.8%] 95% CLs and 4%/day [3-5%] for B.1.617.1 vs B.1.1.7 or 1%/day [0.8-01.3%] for P.1. vs B.1.1.7. That's based on a model nnet::multinom(LINEAGE ~ ns(DATE, df=2)+STATE). A bit lower than in UK but not much pic.twitter.com/38rMwzkBZ8
