Agree. Although important to clarify post PMF. I'm guessing you thought Dan's basement was appropriate for the stage.
Bit of startup advice which I rarely hear: Spend the money on a nice office. Be frugal on just about everything else, but get a nice office. It's hard to appreciate just how much your office becomes a representation of your company. Plus, you're going to spend 10k+ hrs in it.

I disagree with this. If a startup team is sufficiently motivated by the mission they will think such a discussion is frivolous.

I don't think you need to get a fancy office but an office that has the right atmosphere and at a good location is definitely important. The other factor to remember is the daily commute to the office...

This is the approach we took w/ the new space. We don’t spend money on fancy parties or anything else, and an office is where you spend all your time + an *actual* benefit (from a recruiting angle).

I will always lean more towards "don't get an office, work distributed". That will allow you to hire easily and the saved money will more than pay for the occasional travel needed and even allow you to pitch in for people's home setup.
