Pretty clear Westward propagation of rupture from today's M7.7 Caribbean earthquake; at least 200 km, but I suspect FFMs will show most of moment release likely near source.

Today is the 320th anniversary of the last M9 earthquake to hit the Pacific NW. In honor of this event, my family has designated January 26 as the day that we update our earthquake kit each year. This thread shows a bit of what that looks like.

I forced a bot to watch over 1,000 hours of AGU Fall Meeting talks and then I asked it to write a talk (audience experience and all) on its own. Here is the first page.

From a quick analysis of P-wave data, the rupture for tonight's M7.9 offshore Alaska event appears to be bilateral (West-East), but overall very compact- most of the moment release is likely within 50km of the hypocenter.

Still blows my mind that the M5.8 Oklahoma earthquake (likely caused by human activities) was larger than todays N Korea nuclear test (M5.3)
