Hats off to the unparalleled scripts writing team and amazing casting crew at , they probably spent more time on fact-checking than most social media companies or news agencies. Never would have thought to see 's work in a TV show.

I just published a new attack that breaks Mimblewimble's privacy model. This attack traces 96% of all sender and recipient addresses in real time. Here's a summary and what it means for the future of privacy coins:

No , client-side pre/post-processing doesn't break E2E encryption. Otherwise, all of the following also "break encryption": ad blockers, screenshots, iMessage app integration, or even telling friends about something you read online (1/many)

They can point to the law and tell us this is legal. They can point to the world and say everything is okay. I disagree.

or maybe a freedom to tinker blog dedicated on this curated list would be super appreciated. Would love to learn more about the policy-making and social-political arguments revolving PET, thanks!!

thanks to , for their joint work on this. This has been a huge effort to pull apart and document almost every byte of a multi-year in-the-wild exploitation campaign, which used 14 different iOS exploits.

William Barr gave a talk today at Fordham, on “going dark” and the need for encryption backdoors. A lot of this is old hat. The surprising thing is that it was the only subject of the talk: it seems like the Trump administration is serious about this. (Thread).

Cryptographers working on "verifiable delay functions" (VDF) seem to think that all known algorithms to compute x^2^T mod pq (unknown p,q) need T times the latency of a single squaring. Sorenson and I have a 2007 paper beating this in some hardware models.

... But, routinely, this is a highly contestable claim. The alternative of less data collection, or no data collection at all, is rarely mentioned... and policy-makers believing, quite wrongly, that there is some sort of crypto-magic to protect people from data misuse."

And the consequence of that is a tolerant attitude towards the future collection of other personal data by the public, and a "why not" attitude by the collectors. To quote Rogaway "...differential privacy implicitly presupposes that the data collection serves some public good...

Now, hats off to efforts like privacy-preserving techniques, new model without a massive training set. But fundamentally, what concerns me isn't the fact that so much data is being mined, but rather "collection of data is good" assumption is becoming a norm, socially rooted.

Disturbingly, the assumption "amassing as much data as we could possibly script off (either from customers, citizens or buying from 3rd parties) for the purpose of improving my model" seems totally acceptable without challenges. It's for scientific progress, for the greater good!

Undeniable as how incredible all advancements in deep learning are, I secretly dislike the "make the world a better place" portrait by the media for statistical/non-symbolic methods because of its side effect -- the ever-diminishing boundary (implicit) for data collection
