One key takeaway: Polarization is getting worse because of decreasing connectivity of people with different viewpoints.

Why? * Geographic segregation is an emergent property of innocuous personal preferences to not be in a small minority. * Broadcast news is being supplanted by narrowcast news. * Recommendation engines amplify confirmation bias. * We follow like-minded people on social platforms.

I don’t think I yet see how to re-establish that connectivity, but I do really like the perspective shift from “what the heck is wrong with those people” to “the information plumbing of our society has this well-defined problem.”
