Colorado Senate still discussing death penalty. They need final approval of today’s vote to repeal the death penalty, and there are still a other amendments being considered. No major changes expected in this phase, but will update if anything notable happens.

Alright, that’s it. Today’s vote is final, and tomorrow the Senate is expected to hold one last vote on the death penalty. But for reasons explained above, today was the big one. Death penalty could be just a few weeks from being officially repealed in Colorado.

I just caught up with Nancy Todd, whose vote was unknown entering today. She is very close with Rhonda Fields. She feels CO must end death penalty. Todd said Fields her today, “You know I need your vote” and that she responded, “I know you do, but it’s time to move past this.”

I spoke with Fields after the vote, then with Tate and Gonzales. Fields and Gonzales seemed emotionally exhausted. Gonzales said she couldn’t really sleep last night. Fields, whose son would have turned 37 yesterday, said she hopes the caucus can keep peace after today.
