Barricades have fallen to the west of the White House and the crowd is surging forward, once again coming face-to-face with Secret Service who’ve moved into formation and raised their riot shields—a few stained yellow from eggs just thrown.pic.twitter.com/B0AMIk8aMZ

Penn. and 17th is split between protesters and Secret Service with what’s basically a buffer zone between them. The situation is stable at the moment but some protesters are daring to inch forward. Cries of “hands up, don’t shoot” are getting louder.pic.twitter.com/ToiwFKwoP3 – at The White House

Tensions flared near the White House. Not sure what triggered it, all I saw was a blast of pepper spray and a sudden sprint backward. There’s a lot more pressure on the police cordon and they’re pulling out gas masks.pic.twitter.com/X4uCQRzPkw

Insanity outside the White House. Three warnings of an unlawful assembly from the Secret Service before storming into the crowd. A lot of people have been hit with paper spray. In all the chaos, at least one person was tossed to the ground and presumably arrested.pic.twitter.com/Ab2eSkq9CS

The Secret Service didn’t push into 17th. There was a second standoff here until they shouted something unintelligible which freaked the hell out of everyone and caused a stampede. Most people took that as a sign to start moving. They’re heading to join another group.pic.twitter.com/RzIJiM80we

There’s been another confrontation at the White House. Secret Service are trying to chase people out of a fortified Lafayette Square after they breached the barricades. I’m at H and 16th where it’s obvious police have deployed some sort of irritant because my skin is burning.pic.twitter.com/oCpnddwWiA

I’ve never seen Lafayette militarized to this level in the eight years I’ve lived in DC. There’s an armored unimog sitting in the middle of the lawn with the White House as a backdrop. Park Police are fully geared for a riot with batons and pepperball launchers.pic.twitter.com/BmytI4LQBa

If anything the crowd has grown in the hour I’ve been watching things unfold at H and 16th. You can tell park police are digging in, they’ve set up two spotlights with portable generators and I can see forklifts bringing in extra barricades.pic.twitter.com/Y0JLePlqIp – at The White House

There’ve been at least two fireworks launched toward police at the White House standoff, both in the last ten minutes or so along with an escalation in the number of bottles thrown. I haven’t been able to get them on film because they’re so quick, here’s the aftermath of one.pic.twitter.com/nLFXG3jKSx – at The White House

Here’s a tour of H St. There’s a discernible hot zone confined to the northeast corner of Lafayette around the dumpster fire. Air is peppery there. H & 16th saw plenty of bottles thrown but it’s somewhat calmed. Exit routes are west or east, where the street is mostly deserted.pic.twitter.com/kXdOAgEz9k

An SUV has been set alight at the intersection of Connecticut Ave. and I Street, a block over from Lafayette Park. Police flushed everyone out with flashbangs. Flames spread to a tree and a small structure on the sidewalk. DC Fire has an engine on it.pic.twitter.com/e3HL6SP3cI – at Farragut Square

Another firework went off near I and 16th. This one was big, blew up almost on top of me. I’m backing off. People were smashing windows in the area, it’s getting mighty violent and I’m hearing a lot of booms coming from the direction of K St.pic.twitter.com/vtusLPBzEW – at Lafayette Square Park

Police upped their use of flashbangs at H & 16th and with fears abound of a kettling operation, practically everyone left made a run for it. Fire alarms are ringing at the Chamber of Commerce, bricks are being lobbed at windows all around me.pic.twitter.com/MtC3nRSWwb

I’ve been hearing glass shattering all night coming from north of the White House. Making my way out of here and I’m seeing why. A lot of broken windows between Lafayette and Farragut squares and the sidewalks are littered with chunks of stone.pic.twitter.com/oDh4lYogej

This’ll be my last update for tonight. I’ve been on assignment for over 12 hours and after months in quarantine, two days of nonstop running hasn’t been easy on me. That said, I’m still hearing bangs and yelling from Lafayette. This is far from over. Sweet dreams, America.
