The first rule we teach novices is don't repeat yourself - DRY. But have you ever thought about why we teach them that rule? It's because they can't understand anything else. They don't know anything, but by God, they can recognize duplication

Paul McCulley: Cash is the top performing asset year-to-date. John Stuart Mill: Money, consequently, was in request, and all other commodities were in comparative disrepute. In extreme cases, money is collected in masses, and hoarded. /1 cc

The Go Programming Language literally exists because Google doesn't think you're smart enough to learn Haskell.

Thoughts on Domain Driven Design 1. You can only model well if you have actual knowledge. 2. In perfect world where anyone can code one who has domain knowledge makes app. No arrogant coder needed. 3. This is already happening in Python - ML, Jupiter notebook etc

2/2 Most people don’t believe this; Instead the average person thinks recessions are caused by big real shocks, or financial shocks, of one sort or another. Asset bubbles bursting, 9/11, stock market crashes, devastating natural disasters, etc.

1/2 Perhaps before people start learning, they need to unlearn things they believe, that just ain’t so. We market monetarists believe that monetary shocks (or “disequilibrium” ) is the primary cause of business cycles, indeed almost the only cause of big swings in unemployment.

I've always been curious how to get babel to parse custom JS syntax (for syntax experiments, mostly)... this article explains it really well! +

After 15 years, I feel like I finally have a clear(er) view of how to architect an app. Give up the user-centric stack with the view at the top and local database & server at the bottom. The view, local database, and server are all equal & deal with primitives.
