The five stages of climate denial: 1/ it’s not happening + you scientists are making it up for the $ 2/ it’s not humans 3/ warmer is better! bring it on 4/ adapting is cheaper than cutting carbon and ... geoengineering! 5/ it’s too late. You scientists really shdv told us earlier

There's a well-researched article about atmospheric jet streams in today's Financial Times, including some commentary from me on why it is so difficult to assess their response to climate change.

's Operation IceBridge getting ready to fly up north soon. It's looking to be an important summer season with this sea ice loss and the extensive surface melt being observed over Greenland right now too.

Updated forecast of September Arctic sea ice coming in lower at 3.89 (+/- 0.34) million km² - close to the current record low set in 2012. Detrended concentration maps show this is driven by high ice loss (blue) in the Beaufort Sea and Eastern/Siberian sector of the Arctic.

getting pretty overwhelmed by the CMIP6 data archive - anyone have any thoughts on the best way of doing basic analysis (monthly/regional means of a few variables) across the entire ensemble, hopefully on some kind of cloud environment, e.g. Discover?

My statistical forecast of September Arctic sea ice coming in at 4.13 million km², which would be the 2nd lowest on record. *for those interested, my 2017/2018 June forecasts were pretty on the nose (4.5/5.0 respectively compared to observed values of 4.5/4.8 M km2)
