Attempting to curtail freedom of speech and access to information under the veil of “regulation and licensing” is undemocratic and offends Canadian constitutional values. This is lipstick on the pig of censorship.

This great excerpt from The Gulag Archipelago by Solzhenitsyn gives insight into the game theory of lavishing praise in dictatorships: “Don’t ever be the first to stop applauding!”

Every child is a scientist by nature! Children lose their inborn curiosity as they grow up. The important thing is to keep asking questions, keep learning - and doing - new things.

Of course it makes sense to distrust both CNN and Fox. The tragedy of the NYTimes is that it has decent coverage on topics that aren't important to the narrative but on core narrative topics it is nutty.

This phenomenon just keeps on going across the world, and few learn the one important lesson it carries - if somebody rejects what's frequently nonsensically referred to in the US as the 'horseshoe theory', they're actually likely to belong to one of its far ends:

Broader phylogenetic awareness is a large blindspot for many studying human behavior, and it's not a discipline-specific issue. This anthropocentrism is everywhere, yet it's impossible to have a conversation about human uniqueness without talk over what other animals have first!

Capitalism is not a coherent philosophy because it is an emergent system. This is why systems that work less well are more enticing.

Doesn't the "pink tax" - where products marketed towards women cost more - just indicate that women are more willing to pay extra money to affirm their identity as female, and it's their own damn fault for not buying the cheaper, non-pink product?

Group rights is a horrifying concept as one can't have rights without corresponding responsibilities. And the concept of collective responsibility is well erm... about the most illiberal idea one can come up with. Those who promote group rights are clueless to the consequences.
