My concern is that this is in some way a poison pill - I simply don't trust the company. And no, I don't know in what way this could go bad.

Contributing as a top level sponsor of the Linux Foundation over the last few years, and donating patents to the cross-licensing organization is a huge step away from the direction of 20 years ago.

On the Linux Foundation - it's not really looking after Linux any more. It's more of an industry body representing the interests of a bunch of companies, and as such should be viewed with some suspicion. (Yeah, I know, I am sounding like RMS II)
