I find it really frustrating when people frame challenging misinformation as negativity. I don't want to be a party pooper, that's why I always try and inject humour into these things. But I think that it's important that incorrect narratives are held to account.

Going to show this to my class as a way of conceptualizing "ground up" evolution of flight. Imagine a cursorial predator using wings to navigate the environment and chase down prey in the same way. Super cool.

Observing a Red-shouldered Hawk at a close distance is always cool. Having that same Red-shouldered Hawk dive down & catch a dekay’s brown snake MOMENTS after you explained to a group of birders that they prefer to dine on reptiles & amphibians is even cooler. (📷 Shawn Taylor)

Barn owls have to be among the superb-est of s. Amazing cochlea (thx ), giving them hearing abilities like no other bird. Asymmetrical external ears—but not bony, middle, or inner ears—gives them superb abilities to localize sounds in space.

The colors of the Superb Fruit Dove are quite superb, wouldn’t you say? It's native to parts of Australia and spends much of its time in the tree canopy foraging for fruit—such as figs & palms—to munch. It plays a big role in dispersing the seeds, too! [📸: themonnie]

Close-up of a Superb Fruit Dove's upper-half of the body. Its head is turned toward the left of the frame. It has a bright lavender-colored patch atop its head and a mix pf green, orange, white, and purple plumage along its chest, neck, and wings. It has yellow eyes, and a grayish beak.

Curating a rather lovely Long-tailed Hermit nest collected by the late Alexander Skutch in Costa Rica in 1972. The nest was sent to the noted English ornithologist Barbara Snow. She had already studied Hermit hummingbirds in detail so this was a continuation of her previous work

As suggested this morning. Here is today sketch/speedpaint: the avialian dinosaur Balaur bondoc from Late Cretaceous Romania, here depicted as perched on a low branch. Balaur is notorious for having a “sickle-claw” on both 1st and 2nd toes
