When I'm designing a project, I ask myself: 1) What is the goal? 2) What assumptions do I have and how risky are those assumptions? 3) What do I need to learn to minimize #2? 4) What methods are best suited to answer #3? 5) What constraints shape my ability to do #4?

In the D&I track, we're reframing the practice of to reflect the complex, diverse world our users live in. How can we: Adapt our ethical principles to reality? Study others without othering? Avoid reifying power and inequality? Hire and amplify relevant voices?

Love the idea of setting a goal to email at least one person a week telling them how much you’ve enjoyed their work and the positive impact it has had on your own. ❤️

I wish recruiters stopped asking "What is your expected salary" My response "I gauge how serious a comp is about hiring me based on what they provide. I look forward to hearing what they are offering. You can share your range + I'll let you know if I'd continue this conversation"

Interesting study on using firm language during negotiations. Now what were the findings broken down by race, gender, and their interaction?

The guy who said “Don’t boo; vote” was right. And even voting alone won’t be nearly enough to address this. I just don’t want to hear any of this, from either camp. Folks need to get over all this petty personal shit and realize what kind of mess America is actually in right now.

As someone who is deeply introverted, this 100%: "How you listen can work like a self-fulfilling prophecy: If you’re barely listening to someone because you think that person is boring or not worth your time, you could actually make it so."

This was an amusing exercise. My “Design Twitter” list breakdown by gender. I was thinking the list has been much more palatable since my New Years follow spree and now I know why... Calculated by

    Chart: I follow 37% men, 61% women, 2% non-binary. My followers are 48% men, 50% women, 2% non-binary. My timeline is 39% men, 58% women, 3% non-binary.
