"10 years later, I wld sell out that same arena 2x with Savage Garden. My mother would divorce my dad. I was able to buy her a house, & that sad little boy, through the power of imagination & maintaining an innocent heart, managed to create a happy ending"

“Trans and gender diverse prisoners are being told they might have been deserving of [assault] and, being a trans person in prison, that in some way they’re already a sexual deviant. So, if sexual violence happens to them, they’re in some way complicit.”

“If young people are supported and listened to, then they have better health outcomes in the future; and the gender affirmation process doesn’t have to be the same for everybody. It doesn’t always involve medical intervention, but for many it needs to.”

I am cranky and disappointed about how little there was in the outcomes of the jobs summit for disabled people to tear down the barriers that exclude us from work. A 🧵.

“Queer kids are magical. As adults they will be charismatic, vivacious beams of joy in the world. But we need to make sure they get there. Every kid deserves to grow to their full potential.”

The Government this afternoon has announced its '36 outcomes' from the Jobs and Skills Summit.
As expected, excluding LGBTIQA groups from the summit itself has inevitably meant excluding LGBTIQA people from its outcomes.

Yesterday, one of the delegates to the Summit said "if you're not at the table, you're on the menu".
Well, it seems with respect to the LGBTIQA community, we weren't invited to be at the table, so our issues have been left off the Government's menu of reforms.
Disappointing. 5/

Apparently DEWR 'will commence detailed consultations with business & unions on these matters next week'.
What about consultations with the community groups & orgs affected by these issues, like trans, gender diverse & intersex workers who are currently excluded from the FWA? 4/

Across the Jobs & Skills Summit Outcomes document's 14 pages there's not a single mention of the LGBTIQA community broadly, or any specific group within it.
Meaning there aren't any outcomes which are primarily designed to address issues like high rates of trans unemployment. 2/

Here's a reminder Malcolm:
Holding an unnecessary, wasteful and harmful postal survey, & then Parliament passing a private members bill which included new forms of discrimination, does not make you the hero you think you are.

"It’s just complete fascism. Just extraordinary" Turnbull said. "One of the things they accused me of being was anti-queer, which didn’t seem to match the fact I legalised same-sex marriage."
Malcolm still doesn't understand the harm he caused. #auspol 1/

Over 29 years advocating for the Trans community I have known many trans people with qualifications & experience unable to find employment. Although never acknowledged the only reason could be their being trans. This discrimination is a huge waste of education & skills. 🏳️⚧️
