I'm pretty sure Alexander Hamilton wrote something about this in the Federalist Papers.

There are a lot of people taking my Gorilla Channel joke very seriously. Which is funny to me because the basic argument made by these v. serious people is that other people should know when a tweet is a joke and not take it too seriously.

To address the criticism, I don't think practiced lies and misinformation should be measured against political satire.

A theory built on dubious claims and presented as fact is far worse than political satire which merely pulls back the curtain. The author of the gorilla tweet isn't trying to pass it off as truth or anything, it just seemed so spectacularly possibly that people were taken in.

That's what I'm saying! It's embarrassing that this administration is so shitty and outrageous that people would actually believe Trump is staring at a television howling at gorillas. I think you finally get it.

Let me see if I got this right... Because enough people were dumb enough to believe the stupid gorilla story, Trump should be removed from office because not only are they dumb enough to BELIEVE the story, they're also so blinded by hate they think it's something he'd do?

Not quite the point I was trying to make. Thanks for playing.pic.twitter.com/3GicbVuNiE

Please enlighten me.

If the Gorilla Channel joke were made about someone like George Bush, far fewer people would have paused and wondered if it were a real account. Trump is so far from normal that people are trying to figure out what behavior to expect and what news to believe.
-
This isn't about dumb people being taken for a ride, this is about reasonable people not know which way is up because this administration is so volatile and unpredictable.

The scary thing is that many of the people that believed the Gorilla Channel story are also registered to vote. The growing number of people that get their news and factual information from social media is terrifying.

If your dumb enough to believe that this is true, that makes you the problem not the person the rumor was about.

Not entirely.

Trying to blame your own wild delusions on Trump is as ridiculous as falling for the blatant parody in the first place.
