I have to say, Rook has very slick branding, absolutely loving the artwork (the software is extremely cool too)

The world's richest polluters are funneling $30 billion annually to through obscure export credit agencies "no one has ever heard of", undercutting the Paris emissions goals

In pursuing the Energiewende, Germany will have invested $580 billion in renewable energy and storage by 2025. If Berlin had invested in nuclear instead, it would already be generating 100% of electricity from low-emissions energy sources.

Germany has ~50 GW of onshore wind. At 25-year replacement period, it requires 2 GW of new builds each year just to maintain capacity. At 20-year, 2.5 GW. But share of the generation pie was merely ~20% in 2019, so 1.1-1.6 GW is a major problem for growth

Mild progress! Hooray 🥳 Still a long way to go. The plastic lobby are hitting back with claims paper, glass, aluminium, cardboard etc have higher CO2 emissions due to weight+transport. CO2 vs Eternal plastic waste, tough choice. We need abundant nuclear and synthetic fuel ASAP

Q: When the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine, and your Tesla grid scale battery is just a mere 0.1MWh (not that we have one), what powers your kettle?

Fascinating new research: What happened when Germany shutdown its nuclear plants? It replaced much of the lost energy with coal. "The social cost of this shift from nuclear to coal is approximately $12 billion per year."

“You don’t need Kubernetes” Until... You’re asked to resize all your VMs cause they’re all at 10% utilization... should have used Kubernetes. /1

ZFS isn't just "a neat filesystem", it's elegant, dare I say it, beautiful; something one falls in love with, and I fell very much in love. Yes, btrfs may do much of what it does, and more, but it will never come close to giving me the same _feeling_ zfs does; absolute trust.

We have over a Petabyte of data stored on ZFS at work, and over the last 10 years we’ve lost zero bytes of customer data despite all sorts of exceptional hardware and software failures. The idea of putting it on btrfs is beyond laughable...
