Everyone is doing end of year 'best game' things. I didn't play many new releases but I did play 496 games from the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. Here are the 5 I had the most fun with and why.

New blog post! The reported closing of Sony's PS3/PSP/Vita online stores in a few months time is an avoidable inevitability, a great example of all the good digital storefronts can do - and the holes they leave behind:

There have been a few pirate-themed 7DRLs this year. They just make me want to revisit the classic, one of my all-time favourites. (Screenshot pinched from )

  5. It's a lot of years since I last even attempted to go through all the Lone Wolf books (excluding New Order because (1) they're not as good and (2) I don't own them all anyway). Maybe I'll start on that during the Easter break.

  6. The more I think about his government's trajectory, the harder it is to imagine him just going "oh well" and stepping aside if he loses an election.

  7. Am I the only person wondering what happens when we get to the next general election? I don't want to sound conspiracy theorist, but at this point I'm starting to think Johnson might try to find a way of delaying, and then delaying again, and...

  8. This is a lot of what's being going on in Johnson's government. Ministers being caught doing something awful, then basically just shrugging and carrying on.

Mistwalker's Japan-only DS title Archaic Sealed Heat is an unusual mash-up of two traditional RPG genres, and all the better for it:

  10. Rogue Sea. The piratey look is nice, and it's briefly fun to zip around and blast ships. There isn't a lot here though. It's mostly about collecting coconuts by bumping designated islands. I'm glad to see someone try this, it just doesn't offer more than a few minutes of play.

Haque is a little bit on sale this week on itch and Steam! If you liked Pancaketheon, SuperTry's 7DRL offering, you might like Haque!

If there's one thing I've learnt from playing D&D 5e it's that choosing new spells is the best thing about gaining a level. No one wants to level up a non-spellcaster, it's boring 90% of the time, just roll a die for HP. Bleh.

This note by and to Douglas Adams is for everyone who has ever struggled with writing: "Forget about the worry, just press on. Don't be embarrassed about the bad bits. Don't strain at them. Give yourself time, you can come back and do it again..."

Found Magic. Cast spells by typing keywords: accurate=powerful, fast=cheap. Gain MP and elements for more spells by melee - a dangerous tightrope of hanging back to cast and getting in close to replenish, but at risk. One core idea done well is the hallmark of a solid 7DRL.

Here's a spotlight on an English-friendly strategy/adventure game called Battle of Kingdom for the Game Boy that was only released in Japan. Enjoy!

The Salvager. Pretty standard rogueliking, though the unforgiving O2 meter combined with spongey foes lends it some tension. Or would, but the generation needs work - out of 5 plays, in 3 of them the objective of the game was in the first room next to the start point. Oops.
