I also responded to the suggestion in the Sunday Times that herd immunity may have influenced policy in September and am now throwing my phone in the canalhttps://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/dec/14/herd-immunity-boris-johnson-coronavirus …

Agree: short strict lockdown was needed early sept to reduce the spread clearly taking hold* and avoid need for longer damaging restrictions we now have. Should have been one of the lessons from Feb/March. *Following the lunacy of eat out to help out and the message that sent.

We should have learned hard lesson following long spring lockdown - effective at cutting infections but damaging in other ways. More cautious summer messaging and short sharp measures when signs of rising appears would've meant less impact overall to people's lives and economy.

There is only so many restrictions that the public will take and restrictions will be less effective with every repeat, look at last lockdown in England, Wales or N.I.. Very hard to make the case for very strict restrictions when cases are low. We are policed by consent.

Great article thank you. How are they STILL getting sucked in to this BS? I see @UniofOxford tagged prominently in tweets promoting GBD. Are they happy their reputation is tarnished worldwide by non-scientific death-policies of Heneghan & Gupta? Public clarification from Ox.Uni?
