I have long suspected that the Thorny Devil (Moloch horridus) may be Australia’s best lizard. Now after meeting a couple in the red center I can confirm it’s true.. just look at these weird lil guys! 🧡

Deadly but not dangerous. Our new paper led by Tim Jessop shows that komodo dragons have little effect on populations of their ungulate prey. Take home message: komodos are not analogues of mammalian apex predators

I couldn’t understand why Australia awarded its highest honor to a rape apologist & sycophant to pedophiles. Then I remembered our P.M. is a coal carrying visionless self server who chooses to go on holiday when the country is on literal fire. When the top rots - we all do.

There’s no good reason to keep Australia Day the date it is when it hurts so many great (and quite a few average) Australians. There’s so many other wonderful days we could chose.

I designed a tattoo for fellow herp enthusiast , who is studying the reintroduction of the critically endangered Christmas Island blue-tailed skink (Cryptoblepharus egeriae). Really cool project! 💙

Barnaby Joyce has often joked about his battle with the Booroolong frog and referred to it as a metaphor for green tape gone mad. Now it's locally extinct in his home region

A proposal: how about we stop calling them dust-storms & start calling them what they are - soil-storms. Dust is something you vacuum off your floor, it accumulates in old houses. This is our precious top-soil, loosened by 200 years of land mismanagement.

Your daily reminder. Burning out national parks to remove all the fuel is not the solution. Our protected areas are there to try and conserve some of our biodiversity, most of which prefer longer unburnt vegetation. Yes, we need burns, but strategic burns in moderation.

Everyone, say hello to Australia's two newest* geckos: Pletholax edelensis and Nephrurus cinctus. And if you're interested, check out our paper over at Israel Journal of Ecology & Evolution: *not really new, elevated from subspecies, but you know...
