So after multiple 500k point runs on different builds with max modifiers in Nova Drift, I feel comfortable in saying that it’s a pretty fun game that definitely still needs work (which makes sense, it’s in Early Access).

The biggest problem it currently has is losing track of your ship. Now, granted, in a bullet-hell shoot-em-up part of the difficulty is keeping tabs on where you’re at in comparison to everything else, but right now it feels like it errs too far towards “where the FUCK am I?!”

(This is exacerbated by certain enemies and backgrounds sharing the exact same colors as your ship, depending on your loadout. A good fix would be allowing players to set the color of their aiming line away from dull grey to a brighter color to keep track of the ship)

Some weapons also feel like they lack an identity past the first fifty waves (looking at you Pulse and Split Shot). I’m not too worried about that though, since that’s an easy numerical fix to bring the damage in line with higher tier choices (Railgun, Grenade, Flak).

However, these are relatively minor nitpicks. I think there’s a pretty solid game there waiting to be uncovered, and as long as it keeps getting updates, I definitely see myself playing it for quite a while.

I’m wondering why I need a thrust button at all. Just put it all on the left stick.
