    fun detail that hasn’t come out yet: on 8/7 after the scheduled reorg meeting where nathan was acting weird, a bunch of us got together & streamed a DS9 episode. I invited nathan but he didn’t show. he forced us out the next day. the DS9 episode we watched was The Bar Association

    😭😭😭😭 the only thing that has made the last week bearable has been the solidarity of the staff, and to now have the solidarity of so many people I admire and the local DSA chapter…. like a warm hug

    i considered nathan a friend. this hurts. this is awful. i wonder even now if i should shut up to not hurt him. but i dont think im in a position where that is a fair ask. he has shown he can turn on a dime to sudden cruelty and im afraid of that. (7/6 bc a ho cant shut up)

    I’ve edited and written regularly for Current Affairs since 2016. The mag has always been, fundamentally, a collaborative organization. The staff members we hired over the last 3 years improved the quality of the magazine immeasurably.

    i explicitly adapted the org structure preso to cater to his concerns about public ownership. no one was ever against him or any plans he proposed. he did not even listen to how authority could be split b/w different types of decisions: to avoid structureless horizontalism. (5/6)

    business and editorial cannot be separated in the way he has tried to. the glenn greenwald article led to a spike in subscriptions, but not one as large as the summer sale that and i coordinated. i never received any negative feedback on my performance. (4/6)

    none of us are perfect at our jobs and it's a tough time for media. CA was not in financial danger, and the recent hire of another employee and the org structure conversations were aimed at collectively addressing the problems we faced. (2/6)

    i cannot overemphasize how he never spoke honestly to anyone about any of this. i, too, regret that a week of poor judgment could ruin something so utterly. but a long period of dishonesty created the conditions he lists. (1/6)
