Debating whether North Korea can be deterred has largely kept us from debating the best way to deter. I asked these four excellent teams to contrast their perspectives, out now in 's Survival.

So glad to see this new Pentagon team coming together. These are real experts who won't just do repair work on things like process and civ-mil, but actively challenge destructive policy dogma. It feels good to be optimistic about a new year in defense policy.

It should not be revolutionary to build a foreign policy around the aim of making American’s lives better, but it is. Good on and team for clearly and patiently making this case.

In July of 1776 the entire of city of Boston was closed so they could safely inoculate for smallpox. It lasted months and no one could leave once it began. They did it again in 1778. The Founders would be proud that the government was protecting its citizens from disease.

Me and have the amendment ready. Send the bill back, and we will put in the $2,000 we’ve been fighting for that your party has been blocking.

Candor is more important than comfort if we’re going to create change. And so I wrote for ⁦⁩ about the financial challenges of seeking office. Want new, diverse voices in the halls of power? Remove these very real barriers.

The amount of repair work that needs to be done on civil-military relations can hardly be overstated.

As dusk crept over the nation’s capital, the National Cathedral tolled its bell 300 times, to honor 300,000 Americans lost to covid. People gathered to watch. Some bent their heads. Others held each other silently. It was the most profoundly tragic thing I’ve ever witnessed.

I believe we should abolish the Electoral College and select our president by the winner of the popular vote, same as every other office. But while it still exists, I was proud to cast my vote in New York for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

This isn't free speech so much as it is suppression of free speech, in this case religious speech. We are not obliged to tolerate this. Democracies that tolerate fascist movements cease to be democracies.

White supremacist hate speech and incitements of racial violence are not welcome in this city or this country. Every public figure should condemn this unequivically.

I assumed the nominee would be a woman but I'm not demoralized. As a Black woman in national security, I STILL look at this nomination as a BFD given its historic nature. Even with my civ-mil concerns, I celebrate GEN Austin's nomination.
