    New big announcement: I am moving away from free open access blogging to model of paid subscription. To this end, I have now set up a Substack publication where I will post most of my future content such as translations of various primary source materials

    Good overview by et al. of the economic dilemmas facing oil producing countries w/all the talk of 'net zero' emissions.That said, I see a huge amount of inertia built into current systems to enable substantial reduction in fossil fuel demand

    Also, what's the point of the North Korea analogy? Plenty of people/observers refer to the country by its official name: The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). But its governing ideology is Juche.

    So if it is not Islamic, what is it? The previous government called itself an 'Islamic republic': should people have refrained from referring to it as such? Or Iran's 'Islamic republic'? What is an 'Islamic government' can incorporate a range of outlooks

    I am begging people to stop listening to this. First step of learning a lesson from these last 20 years is to stop listening to the ‘turning a corner/could’ve just stayed who cares what the Afghans do’ experts who have been wrong for these last 20 years.
