Seriously? You agree with the incels that govt mandated sex is the answer? 'Attractive, eligible' women should just take one for the team and marry violent or otherwise repellent men? Would you? And consider the grotesque incentive this creates for violence

I offer the PLO example not as an answer in itself, but more as an example of creative thinking, and demonstrating the change of stakes when young men have communal bonds/roots in the community. Late stage capitalism has decimated those bonds and connections.

A peculiar example given the wider conversation. The incels one demand is access (and entitlement) to sex. Given that we're all in the same late capitalist boat and not all misogynists, I support Futrelle - deplatform them to stop them radicalising each other

I'll ask you the same thing - what is the end you're hoping for? Because I just want men to stop thinking they're entitled to sex (a matter of education)

If I can: The demand and/or expectation for sex is a symptomatic expression of more foundational and constitutive problems. This is what Aimee is getting at. Deplatforming does nothing to transform the libidinal economy. That’s key.

^ that entitlement isnt exclusive to incels, the overwhelming majority of entitled men (incel or otherwise) don’t commit mass atrocities, so I think it’s essential to think critically and engage empirically with what’s actually going on, in order to attend to the problem.

Sure - we can all agree that there is a long term problem that needs to be solved. But the more immediate problem is violent radicalisation on online message boards and that needs to stop.

Is it? Because one woman per week dies from intimate partner violence in Australia, I don’t know the stats in Canada but I imagine they’re at least similar. And online censorship won’t do shit to change that...

it won't stop DV, no, nor is anyone suggesting it will. It will do quite a bit to stop incels radicalising each other and egging ppl on to commit terrorist acts though

You’ve stated an immediate problem, the entitled violence against women problem, and I’m saying that problem exists within and without online incel communities, as evidenced by highest cause of fatalities for women under 50 = intimate violence. Censorship doesn’t change that.

No, the immediate problem I've stated is the incels radicalising each other online problem, and deplatforming does help with that. Men feeling entitled to sex is a longer term problem that needs a different approach, as we both agree

I am confident that shutting down violent incel message boards will stop incels from radicalising each other on those online message boards.
