On the 100th Anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre, let's acknowledge that what happened in Greenwood was not a spontaneous eruption of hatred. That's the narrative that America likes to portray but what happened on May 31, 1921, is an example of systemic racism. A thread

If you're wondering what street parking (#2) has to do with it, here on the left you'll notice the curbside waste bins common in cities around the world. In NYC we still dump our trash on the sidewalks because our mayor is too afraid to remove street parking to do this.

I'm back from a week at my mom's house and now I'm getting ads for her toothpaste brand, the brand I've been putting in my mouth for a week. We never talked about this brand or googled it or anything like that. As a privacy tech worker, let me explain why this is happening. 🧵

did a "meeting de-frag" a couple years ago, where they set slots for types of meetings to occur (standups in this 2-hour block, working group meetings on fridays, etc). made it easier to schedule across teams. might be a nice thing to bolt onto the end of a reset.

radical idea from : a recurring meeting reset. 1. cancel all recurring meetings. 2. don't allow any recurring meetings to be (re)created for X weeks. (ad-hoc meetings still fine.) 3. after that, allow recurring meetings to re-form as necessary.

an unexpected quirk: requests from federal agencies aren't in scope for "preferential treatment", but state and local government agencies are. in other words, requests from them have to be treated like requests from companies.

working in government is endlessly frustrating, but one piece of "bureaucracy" i greatly value are the ethics rules. the Principles of Ethical Conduct are surprisingly good at helping to guide how to do our jobs responsibly 🇺🇸

the way i think about it: if you're regularly working with large files (games, video editing, etc), go with the larger. otherwise, how much are you willing to pay to save your save yourself a few hours in a few years when the smaller version fills up and you need to clean it?
