  1. Looks like fog is the new snow, at least in Belgium. Not a single snowflake this winter so far (*) Fog gives nice & mysterious images, but I still prefer the cold stuff... (*) to be fair, it snowed for 5.3 minutes yesterday 🙄

Very happy to see featuring the Eddy Extravaganza image as their Image of the day!! You can read my musings about the importance of small scale features in the ocean ⬇️ and how satellite data help us catching these eddies red-handed (or brown-handed in this case! 😄)

Who doesn't like a nice eddy? well I do :) Large (~100km diameter) eddy seen in SST ↙️ & chlorophyll ↘️. It has formed in the Algeria coast from an Algerian current meander and has been turning around for a couple of weeks. Not sure if it is still there though...

Storm has been battering Spanish coasts. The SST in western Mediterranean shows the storm influence too, with a decrease of ~2degC from 17 to 22 January 2020: ↙️ Incomplete estimate using (very cloudy) VIIRS data ↘️ Complete estimate of the difference
