Heads up on #hurricane season; now is the time to double check your hurricane kit and plans. With record sea surface temperatures (SSTs), record low Antarctic ice, and El Nino, recent rapid intensification (RI), this is a season to pay close attention.

Flooding downstream of Nova Kakhovka dam TODAY (07:05 AM local time RADAR satellite image). Water surface without vegetation cover or waves appears in black. Note flooding at Dnieper River lowlands and "white water" at Kherson bridges, indicating strong flow and turbulence.

#Hiking #Backpacking advice for the day: always carry a Mylar rescue blanket with you. Not only can they be used to keep you warm (or cool, as shade), they are highly, highly visible to rescue helicopters. It will be the best $1.00 (well... 90 cents) you have ever spent.
90 cent foil mylar rescue blanket, example. Many brands. 52x64 inches. Great for backpacking and hiking.

Well, if they found an ice axe, that would be something. And if it is a mylar balloon, I have proven you can find mylar balloons using satellites 😜

LASD "Air Rescue 5" is reporting they located an ice axe and are going to search the area. The "survival blanket" was found to be a mylar balloon. Sounds like they are search for a missing person from a cell phone Emergency SOS signal.

It will probably be awhile before anyone can check this satellite anomaly (overcast/marine layer -- not helicopter flying weather), but this dark purple spot below the green I did not notice is intriguing too. I guess will be interesting to see if this pans out.

Followup: second try (now that the snow melted), located a couple of interesting anomalies. May 25, 2023 imaging.

Found an interesting satellite anomaly on @SkyfiApp imaging on Mt. San Antonio, around where Julian Sands went missing. Green pixel on a hill with no other pixels of the same color - bottom of a gully.
