In January I spent eight mad days in Saudi Arabia with a great crew, directing a documentary for about a camel festival - it was fun! The Camels of Arabia

Watching is shocking and utterly heartbreaking. What really upsets me is women turning on each other. Instead of supporting the victim, they blame her.... Blame the man who committed the crime!

Here is a primer for "Japan's Secret Shame." Under Abe, 39 bureaucrats altered public documents to protect the Prime Minister's reputation. The prosecutor who dropped all charges was just promoted. No bad deed goes unrewarded.

Shiori is doing such an admirable job right now. Hopefully her fight to bring about change in Japanese society inspires other women to speak out and not ignore their “quiet fury” any longer.

Thank you very much! Due to limits on BBC broadcasts, I haven't seen the documentary yet but I think is a great journalist and really courageous. I'm glad to see her work winning awards abroad as well.

For Japanese trolls in calling a 'fake journalist' have a read of her excellent journalistic work on this story for : Sexual assault in Japan: 'Every girl was a victim'

Shiori Ito is not only an incredibly brave campaigner for woman's rights in Japan, she is also a very gifted photographer, as you can see from her Instagram account:

When I think of Japan I think of peaceful fair people, I cannot believe how women accept rape as part of their lives, something they need to put up with. Good luck Shiori

I can't believe the things I'm hearing in this documentary Only 8% of police are female, not all hospitals have rape kits, consent is non-existent, girls getting groped on the train to SCHOOL & thinking its normal & men only allowed to 'allege' rape since 2017!

Once I made a Japanese expat sacked when we were working for a Japanese mega bank branch in London because he molested and almost raped me when I asked him for career advice. Thankfully the bank had British HR officers. I'll fight again if that happens again.

The attitude of Japanese society towards rape is really disturbing. How many other Shiori Ito's are out there, unknown to anyone other than themselves and their attacker? The courage and grace of Shiori in the face of almost universal disdain is amazing.

I am Japanese and living in the UK. I felt deeply ashamed of this matter. The raper was not arrested because he was a close friend of PM Abe. Unfortunately, recently, we have often seen this kind of political corruption which never happens in the modern state.

Just watching and so saddening that attitudes haven’t changed a jot since I left back in 2004. Shiori is so brave to speak up and fight for what’s right
