Recognising people’s strengths and helping them be the best they can be by giving them confidence to grow. The best managers I’ve had have been ones who believed in me and encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone (to be fair I’ve only had a couple of those in my whole life).

So much this, Rachel. I've had so many managers who view the role as a controller of me instead of someone who should elevate me and let me find my own way. I can't fit into a box so please don't try to put me into any. It's a shame I've left jobs I like because of the manager.

Are you aiming to manage? The fact you're out here asking these questions already puts you above so many out there who lack the necessary self-awareness.

This right here is the first step to not letting anyone down.
I'm not a manager so I can't really help out with this one. The only thing I CAN say is: "you've got this."
