    This is what I’ve been looking for. That guy isn’t sex addicted; his problem is evangelicalism.

    I keep seeing "sex addiction" used as a term of agreed-on meaning, whether the speaker believes it explains the murders or not. But nearly all of what the conservative evangelicalism of the murderer describes as "sex addiction" is what the rest of the world calls sexuality...

    If our model of success is "I just need to operate the levers in the right order and I will be rewarded," then I guess it's working. But that seems like a bad model.

    That pattern ("show me exactly what is expected and I will pull those levers") doesn't teach intellectual self-sufficiency. It makes automatons who are afraid to think for themselves.

    I think AP classes may be bad for HS kids. Being in an AP class teaches the student to work really hard to understand how the exam will be structured. It teaches rote, structural mechanics. It doesn't, as far as I can tell, teach any critical thinking or analysis skills.

    When politics and policy are driven by ideology rather than outcomes, the politickers and policy makers will ignore (at best) and discredit (more likely) actual data about real outcomes.

    The constitution is not the bible. It is a legal document that can change and has changed before*. The writers of the constitution are not gods. We need to stop treating the constitution as a religious object. *The bible has changed, too, but let's leave that aside.
