“When the economics goes bad, we become vulnerable to bad ideas.”
The brilliant @DouglasKMurray joined me to talk about his new book, The Madness of Crowds.

You know
@DouglasKMurray must be dangerous when@TeamYouTube has demonetized all 6 clips with him before they even go public. (Plus a 2 minute clip of me wearing prop glasses.) It’s not about the money, it’s that these clips will all be crushed by algorithm and not suggested.pic.twitter.com/ZgO0p01jaF

YT has said they don’t treat demonetized videos differently in their recommendation algorithm. Is there any source other than anecdotal “my video didn’t get enough views” complaints from attention-seeking YTers to suggest that isn’t true? I’ve never seen one.

How would one go about figuring that out without using view stats? Did google suddenly open source their process?

Well that’s the point. YTers make the claim so the can play victim to generate publicity. But there’s no evidence they’re victims and google says it’s not true. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I imagine there are lots of victims lacking evidence out there in the world. Either way we don’t silence potential victims just because we find them to be unworthy of our own personal sympathy.

You’re accusing a twitter account with zero followers of trying to silence someone? I didn’t think my argument was that strong, but okay...

I was accusing you of holding the opinion that he should be silenced.

Nope, I think he’s wrong, but no one should silence him. Unless you think that persuasively explaining that he’s wrong counts as “silencing” since it may cause reasonable people to pay less attention to him. But I wouldn’t call that “silencing”

Demonetizing his video is not a persuasive argument.
