    Hearing a lot of LA and CA politicians celebrating their success at getting all medically vulnerable people who are homeless into hotel rooms. I’m trying to get people into those rooms, and the success stories are not based in reality. They are giving people false hope. (thread)

    In the middle of this crisis they’re not thinking about people dying, hurting, or how their own fate is tied to these workers. Nope. They’re thinking they’ve got to hold off the union organizing. Working. People. Have. Power. Union.

    This leak is damning, unprecedented for Amazon and evidence that it very much sees itself as fighting a two-front war right now - against Covid-19, and against what it views as the existential dangers of a unionized workforce in warehouses:

    If you live in LA, this applies to you:

    Wow. An 11-hour council meeting, held via Zoom for first time, focused on urgent issues related to COVD-19, our response to the health crisis and the resulting economic and social peril. End result? Some good, some bad. Some progress, some stalemate. Lots of thoughts.

    We need the state to implement a rent moratorium -- but that moratorium has to mean rent *forgiveness*, not new debt. People who have lost jobs can't be expected to make up payments when the pandemic is over. Forgiveness will keep people housed. Debt will make them homeless.

    Just to be yet another person to make the same point re: this craven horseshit. My union came very close to striking in 2017 over whether the companies would fund our fucking healthcare. If that issue was off the table we'd have more leverage in contract negotiations

    There are 14 million union workers in America who have fought hard for strong, employer-provided health benefits. Medicare for All Who Want It protects their plans and union members' freedom to choose the coverage that's best for them.
