@tapbot_paul@agiletortoise No one should be able to live there. (Though calculators are now an exception.) - View other replies

@reneritchie@tapbot_paul Basically. Sounds like only acceptable use of openURL is to forward to detail of a piece of info displayed. -
@agiletortoise@tapbot_paul Yeah, I think so. Widgets are new ground, so there’ll be a lot of turbulence. - View other replies

@reneritchie@tapbot_paul If they were enabled by default, I could see it this making sense - but as a user choice, it’s weird. - View other replies

@agiletortoise@tapbot_paul The environment is highly constrained, so high constraints might be in place. -
@reneritchie@tapbot_paul Resource constrained, yes. But the Drafts widget is basically net zero for resource consumption.

@agiletortoise So no buttons at all or still the + clipboard one? -
@johnvoorhees No buttons. I was told the Today view is for information presentation only, essentially. - View other replies

@agiletortoise@johnvoorhees Wow. Basically all widgets I use are interactive. Sadly, I think Apple is disconnected here. -
@schneid3306@agiletortoise Still early days. Worth waiting seeking how it will play out but it's rough dealing with the uncertainty. -
@johnvoorhees@agiletortoise Yup. Just frustrated as an end user and seeing these really great devs somewhat limited, ya know? -
@schneid3306@agiletortoise I get it. It chills the whole development process. No one wants to work on something that gets yanked later.

@agiletortoise@johnvoorhees What do they consider buttons? I am looking at this on the Today Notifications on my Macpic.twitter.com/nhwwFqHcPQ
-
@kwsanders@agiletortoise I know. Nothing is clear right now. iOS buttons executing code in a source app seem a no-no but could be broader. -
@johnvoorhees@agiletortoise I know that was an OS X example, but they are moving to consistent user interface aspects across devices. -
@kwsanders There are plenty of iOS examples too. Re stocks widget rows act as buttons to open the stocks app. -
@johnvoorhees So they are talking out of both sides of their mouth. Do as they say, not as they do. That is just flat wrong.

-
@agiletortoise Apple seems to have a measuring stick of arbitrary length that they use to measure and enforce arbitrary rules. -
@agiletortoise ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
