I've never had a midlife crisis. I think it's a cultural construct. It implies you aren't living the life you want, you're freaking about aging.

"Crisis" has a lot of negative connotations. But it is possible to reach a new bend at midlife. Certain things that were too far on the horizon come into focus more sharply. That's as it should be. We learn & evolve from our experiences. The sense of mortality can be a catalyst.

True. I think there are moments like that throughout life though: medical issues, for example. I have a dreadful nerve disease, I've had it my whole life. It changed my perspective early on. Mortality is not catalyst for me, pain is.

But that said, I work with many travel writers and the theme for many at midlife in travel is reinvention, especially for women, who are creating new identities, dreams, goals. It's nice to watch the new blooming.
